The GMC Yukon 1500 Hybrid is powered by a 6L, 8-cylinder gasoline engine combined with a two-mode hybrid system. The Yukon vehicles share the same platform as the Chevy Silverado/Sierra pickup trucks and have similar operating characteristics.
As true two-mode hybrid vehicles, the Yukon operate in all-electric mode at low speeds, completely on their conventional gasoline engine when conditions demand, and in a combined gas-electric mode when conditions permit. The vehicles can switch from 8-cylinder operation to 4-cylinder operation at low speeds or at cruising speed. In addition, the hybrid electric drive train can be used in a combined mode to improve acceleration and climbing with heavy loads.
Nickel-metal hydride batteries are stored in a sealed compartment under the second row seating. GM offers a 5-year, 100,000-mile transferable powertrain warranty and an 8-year, 100,000 mile limited warranty on hybrid components.
Standard features on the Yukon include a 26-gallon fuel tank, up to 8,500 lbs of towing capacity, a power remote lift gate, assist steps for easy entry, optional ultrasonic parking assistance, dual-stage front airbags, side mounted airbags for all outboard seating positions, head curtain and side-curtain airbags and a roll-over sensor to cut fuel pump operation. The Yukon also come with OnStar remote assistance for one year, including turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth wireless support, an optional rearview camera and mirror-mounted rear view display, cloth or leather seating surfaces, and an XM trial satellite radio subscription.
The 2009 GMC Yukon 1500 Hybrid - 2WD has an MSRP sticker price starting at $51,405.
