VW Displays Zero-Emission Tiguan Hydrogen FCV
Volkswagen has introduced its zero-emission Tiguan HyMotion Fuel Cell SUV concept vehicle in California. The vehicle is powered by a fuel cell and electric motor, and also features a Li-ion battery. The vehicle has a top speed of 93 mph and can reach the 60 mph mark in a stately 14 seconds. Although the company describes the Tiguan concept as a "showcase of near-term and future fuel-efficient technology," the company has not said that it plans to enter this vehicle into mass production.
The Tiguan concept was initially introduced at the 2007 Shanghai Motor Show. The vehicle features a 107-hp engine that will take a 24-hp boost from the electric motor. The Li-ion battery is charged by the regenerative braking system and is housed in the trunk, underneath the cargo floor. The positioning of the battery pack means that the interior space of the production Tiguan is maintained in this concept. The hydrogen tank is housed under the rear seat and cargo area, and has a capacity of 3.2 kg/H2. In addition to providing zero tailpipe emissions, the Tiguan HyMotion concept is nearly silent when it runs.
