Default For those of us that don't have cars

Hows the public transport system where you're from? Here, its pretty much a train wreck. It depends how far from the city you are - the further being the better - but in the city itself its a crapshoot, basically.

And how else do you get around? I mainly walk, but usually either ride or bus it.

Our public transport is reliable, but sparse. You can pretty much only get to or from downtown--there are few buses available going other places, so you have to head all the way downtown to take a transfer anywhere else.

They've approved a light rail in our city (Honolulu) and now they're arguing how to go about it. Some legislators are proposing we simply use to the funds to add more lanes to the freeways. Way to miss the point, guys...

LOL! *shakes head* We have light rails in our city - they're only very recent though - and motorists are having a difficult time getting used to them. There are a whole new set of laws people aren't being educated about in regards to them. But it seems to have taken some of the stress of our pub-transport system.

I think they need to focus more on suburbs rather than inner city transport.

Well in Houston the public transportation sucks.

They continue to build more roads to encourage larger commutes by car for workers.

Using a bike should be very pleasant roaming around. A skateboard, roller blades or minibike should be very great for green people. The basics are good

Well, from where I am. I think I should ride the iceskates more often, (joke!) We have lotf snow here! Anyway, riding a bicycle is great. Riding a bus should be the answer to extreme cold in here.

I have a friend who takes the bus all the time here (she doesn't own a car) and the complaints are how long it takes to get places because there aren't many direct routes and the prices went up including a 10 cent transfer charge when they didn't used to charge for transfers at all. Since all the utilities customers suppliment the bus line whether we want to or not it seems like they should keep their prices down and provide more routes.

I agree. The cities already have the buses, or else things are within walking/biking distance.

That would be realistic if work weren't 12 miles away over a mountain. Living in the city isn't feasible for all of us, but if we don't it's like there aren't any options!

Our transportation system here is good. I don't have a car either but hope to have one in the future...
