Default What is biodiesel?

I have read that Biodiesel is an alternative fuel used in diesel engines. Biodiesel, in its pure form, is not made from petroleum. What is it's raw materials?

All or part of it is made from plant oils or animal fats. In the US, most commercial biodiesel is made from soybean oil, while in Europe, rapeseed (canola) oil is more commonly used.

Biodiesel can be made from virgin oil, or from used cooking oil recycled from restaurants and food processing operations.

A Volkswagen can't use biodiesel, I think. Maybe the "green" mechanics should have the time to convert it to hybrid.

I've wanted to buy a diesel car and convert it to run on veggie fuel. I have a friend of mine who specializes in diesel car conversions. Now what would be completely awesome is if you took a diesel/electric hybrid and ran that on biodiesel. now THAT would be awesome!

In my country most biodiesel are made from coconuts. I don’t know the process of making one.

Motor owners doesn’t like using it, they are saying about that it will rust their engine once they have used it.

That would be the greatest! Alternative fuel and hybrid in one.

There is already a water vessel from South America that runs on veggie fuel. They are on their journey now to cross the globe with that.

Biodiesel is usually made from plant oils or animal fat through a series of chemical reactions. Mostly, it is made from soyabean. I think any other veg oil would do equally well.
