These vehicles are using two kinds of power sources. May it be gasoline and electric, diesel and electric, ethanol and electric, etc. Any vehicle that uses two kinds of fuel or driving power can be called hybrid.

Yes, other examples are: bicycles with electric motor or commonly called motorbike. These are powered by human and separately, by rechargeable electric motor. Another is the sailboat with electric motor or has gasoline engine.

Hybrids all started way back when people were seeking easy way to propel their machines. One of this is the windmill where wind power is used while it is propelled by people when there is no strong wind. Just imagine when this was invented.

Almost every kins of transportation have come to being hybrid. As been said, anything with two sources of power independently is called a hybrid.

Ships are hybrid too. They are propelled by wind, and humans who paddled it.

Interesting discussion here, what I can add to this one is the rail road engine built by French Bombadier which they call Autorail Grande Capacite which means high capacity railcar. It has dual mode, diesel and electric.

Nice info there! Also these diesel-electrical locomotives are like the Green Goat (GG) and Green Kid (GK) switching/yard engines built by Canada's Railpower Technologies.

Big vehicles to go hybrids huh!
