How fuel efficient are they?

I was having a discussion with some friends and one of them insisted that hybrids aren't really fuel efficient. What are your thoughts on this?

Well some of the Hybrid cars get somewhere between 50 and 70 MPG. So yeah I imagine they are pretty fuel efficient. SOme of the SUV's we have been looking at advertise an average of 35 MPG which is better than a lot of the regular cars they have out right now.

That sounds like they are fuel efficient then. I have a ford F150 and I think I get 22mpg in town.

In my opinion, hybrid cars are the most fuel-efficient vehicles available today because it sucks up less gas and produces less pollution.

In terms of amount of gasoline used they are very efficient. But the one variable that auto manufacturers cannot control is the driver. No matter how efficient the car is, if the driver speeds, tail gates, jack rabbit starts, etc., the car won't be very efficient.
