Yes, they do: 2009 Escape 4WD hybrid.

Honestly, if you're only driving surface streets and highways, than no, I don't think it's important.

Oh I think it is an important feature even if you only drive in town.
After being stuck in some ice storms over the last 2 years I think that that 4 wheel drive would be handy in getting out of some bad situations even if I only drive in town most of the time.
You never know when you might need it and it's good to have available just in case.

My truck I drive now is 4 wheel drive and this past winter was the first that I wasn't in the ditch on my road. I don't know what ever posessed me to build a house on this hill, but with a minivan, I always ended up in the ditch.

I would never buy a vehicle without 4wheel drive again. Unless I move somewhere where it is warm all year round.

4 wheel drive gives the advantage of gaining regenerative braking from all 4 wheels. In addition, electronic stability control can work better.

I am pretty sure that the new Lexus hybrid has four wheel drive and it is supposed provide some benefit with the whole engine or breaking system. Not really sure which or what since I am not a big car person.

I agree...there are huge advantages to getting 4 wheel drive. Especially if you live in a snow belt area like I do.

I think four wheel drives are advantageous for off road excursions or severe wheather driving. It has little value in normal highway driving and sucks comparatively more fuel.
