Even with $4 gas, someone who drives 15,000 miles per year won't necessarily recoup those added costs in the first year of ownership.

Thats true and people should be a little calculative while thinking of getting a hybrid. There is no use if they are getting the returns after two or three years. PEople who travel long distances can have a good deal by getting a hybrid.

Yes, you're right on that one. Weighing the pros and cons in your choices will result to a much better car of choice.

It's the old cost/benefit ratio that people need to consider. I have a car that gets around 40 MPG on the freeway so in my mind, there is no need to spend 10s of thousands of dollars to get a car that gets 50 MPG because the cost/benefit isn't there. Also, because my car is 11 years old, the insurance is cheaper than it would be on a newer car. The same goes for the cost of vehicle registration.
