Hybrid: New Standard Or Laserdisc Car?

I've been thinking about hybrids, and I realized that, realistically, they're NOT the "new standard in technology." They're an intermediary, a momentary technology between gas engines and total battery-powered/electric vehicles of the future. In that, they're like Laserdiscs, which were really just primitive forerunners of DVDs and died out as soon as DVD technology was perfected.

Is it really worth it to invest in short-term technology? Or should I just wait it out until the electric car finally comes?

I like the analogy you have said.

I agree that eventually there will be other technology that does not need gasoline to power the cars.

I still think hybrid cars are worth the price now.

Yes, I can still remember having betamax! Many can't imagine how the picture and sound got encrypted on DVD. Anyway, the hybrids I think will become a long term happening in our lives and it can be access right now if one likes.

You don't think that all electric cars will quickly outstrip them? I mean, I think there will always be some sort of "backup" gas engine in them, but I think the hybrids are just there to help pump money into the development of the technology.

Oooo, I never thought about it like that and you do have a valid point. The only reason I havent gone hybrid is because of the cost, buying new is not in my budget right now. Like all other new technology though, I think it is going to be more expensive in the beginning and hybrids will still be used when newer tech comes along.

If I could get a used hybrid for a decent price I would buy it, anything to ditch my dirty gas guzzler.

Twocents, remember that laserdics never really dropped in price. By the time they would have/could have, DVD was already in play. Another reason I think hybrids are similar--we already know that better tech is in development.
