Toyota Hybrid Cars

You have so many options to choose from when purchasing a hybrid car, it’s almost as difficult as picking out and purchasing a conventional car. Nearly every manufacturer has a hybrid in their line-up so you have to do your research to know what you’re about to buy. If you’re looking at Toyota at a possible hybrid, here are some things you should know about the available models:

Toyota Prius- Toyota Prius starts at $21,000 MSRP and is one of the most widely acclaimed hybrids on the market today. Prius had a rocky start when it was first introduced to the market but has since made changes and revolutions that have rocked the hybrid scale. Prius has a seating capacity of 5, however, you should consider the height and girth of your passengers before trying to squeeze 5 full-grown people into your car. Prius has approximately 14 cubic feet of storage space so you could go on an overnighter but probably not a week long trip. The fuel tank has a capacity of 11.9 gallons and the car weighs nearly 3 tons. Prius has a city rating of 48 miles per gallon and a combined rating of 46 miles per gallon.

Toyota Camry- Toyota Camry starts at $18,720 MSRP and is quickly gaining momentum in the market. Camry has a seating capacity of 5 but you should try it out and make sure that your 5 fit in their 5. Camry has approximately 11 cubic feet of storage space, which is a significant reduction from the nearly 15 cubic feet in the conventional Camry. The fuel tank has a capacity of 17.2 gallons. The car weighs in at 3,680 pounds, but is a mere 200 pounds heavier than its conventional counterpart, which is not normal for most hybrids. Camry hybrid has a city rating of 33 miles per gallon and a highway rating of 34 miles per gallon.

Toyota Highlander- Toyota Highlander starts at $27,300 MSRP and is the only Toyota SUV hybrid. Highlander has a seating capacity of 5. Highlander has a cargo volume of 94.1 cubic feet behind the front seat, so if you have no passengers, you could move quite a bit of luggage. From the middle seat back, there is 42.3 cubic feet. Highlander has a standard towing capacity of 3500 pounds. But don’t count on towing another Highlander hybrid. They weigh in at 6000 pounds. Hybrids also have a smaller fuel tank in Highlander, at 17.2 gallons, down from 19.2 in the conventional Highlander Sport. Highlander hybrid gets only 9 more miles per gallon than the conventional model, coming in at 27 miles per gallon in the city. And, on the highways, the hybrid gets only one more mile per gallon than the conventional model, coming in at 25 miles per gallon.

Remember, it is up to you to research the vehicles you are interested in and make sure you have all the information you need before you make your purchase.
