Getting Used to Your Hybrid Car

Owning a hybrid car is significantly different than owning a conventional in many ways and it may take you time to get used to both owning and driving a hybrid car. To get you started, here is a list of some of the things you’ll have to get used to when you purchase a hybrid vehicle for the first time:

Hybrid vehicles are quieter than conventional cars- When you drive a conventional car down the freeway you’re used to turning up the radio to volume level 26 just so you can hear your music over the roar of the engine. With a hybrid vehicle, the smaller engine will make less noise than a conventional car’s engine and you’ll find very quickly that you don’t need the music level as high as you used to. Additionally, your excessively quiet vehicle could cause a problem with the blind, Deaf, Hard of Hearing and children since they won’t be able to hear you coming, so you’ll want to make sure you start paying closer attention to the road.

Hybrid vehicles are smaller than conventional cars- If you’re used to driving a roomy mid-sized or full-sized sedan, and you’re used to carting around tons of stuff, get ready for a bit of a shocker when you find that your new hybrid doesn’t have as much head room, leg room, shifting room or storage capacity.

Hybrid vehicles leave more money in your wallet- Now that you own a hybrid car, you’re going to find that your wallet has cash in it for longer periods of time after payday. You won’t be visiting the gas pump as often and you won’t be getting oil changes as often. So start thinking of other things to spend your cash on.

Hybrid vehicles help you remember maintenance- Typically, you don’t remember you need to get an oil change until you run into some serious problems with you car, like stalling and the wheel locking up while you’re driving down a hill towards traffic. But in your new hybrid you can look to the system to tell you that you’re running low on oil and that you have only 30% left to go. This is an incredibly efficient way to make sure that your vehicle is running at optimum level and to save hundreds of dollars on repairs since you’ll be able to tell early on when something is going wrong.

Your hybrid car may save you money on car insurance- Car insurance companies love responsible drivers and what’s more responsible than an eco-friendly vehicle? When you purchase your new hybrid, you may see a reduction on your new insurance bill, even though you’re driving a brand new vehicle.

Remember, driving a hybrid is really no different than driving a conventional car. You still have the wheel, the brake and the accelerator, but along with the conventional parts of a car, you also have the opportunity to begin leading a different life with hybrids.
