Ronn Motors To Re-Engineer For Ethanol-Hydrogen Fuel Mix
Ronn Motor Company, of Austin, TX, says it will begin research and development aimed at incorporating ethanol and hydrogen-blended fuels into its vehicle line. According to company president Ronn Maxwell, the company will optimize the efficient use of blended fuels through the use of electronic controls.
Earlier this year, the company announced the Scorpion, an "eco-exotic" hydrogen hybrid vehicle that offers high fuel efficiency and low carbon emissions. The current design of the Scorpion improves fuel economy by 20-40% and reduces carbon emissions to near-zero.
According to Maxwell, the company is committed to developing alternative fuel technologies. The redesign will enable the vehicle to burn a 70-30 mix of gasoline or ethanol and hydrogen, while maintaining the high fuel economy and low carbon emissions. Maxwell has not said when the company might put the redesigned vehicle on the road, but the original Scorpion is expected to be available in 2009 for about $150,000.
